EnergyWise1000 Unit Installation
March 27, 2003 A licensed electrician showed up this evening and installed the EnergyWise1000 unit on my home. Twenty minutes passed from the time the electrician pulled up to the time he left. He came a couple of nights ago to read the instructions and see what kind of supplies he would need. That visit took him five minutes. He needed to buy a 40 amp circuit breaker, which runs about $12.00. This was the first time he had seen one of these power saver units; and still the installation seemed very easy for him. He never even had to shut off power to the home. Photos from Installation, March 27, 2003
Note: wire hanging from meter has nothing to do with this installation. It is a coaxial cable hung there to keep it from laying on the ground until connected (some day; another project).
At this point, the light on the unit is on, but it is nearly impossible to see while the sun is out. I checked it after dark, and it was illuminated. The electrician charged me for a basic service call, and wrote me a receipt while I wrote him a check; and 20 minutes after he pulled up to our house, he left; and the last 1/3 of his time working on the unit was while talking on his cell phone. Easy. He is interested to find out what kind of savings it provides me. Collecting DataI was surprised to learn that the unit is not situated between the meter and the panel, but actually hooks into the panel as if it were a fixture. This will make it very easy to determine the input of the EnergyWise1000 unit on the efficiency of power usage. I can have an appliance running with the unit, then shut the breaker to the EnergyWise1000 unit off, and measure the usage without the unit, while the appliance is running. Very easy to collect data on each appliance in my home. See also
